                         Abortion In Islam

Abort if it's danger to the life of mother.

The Holy Quran  says in Surah-Al-An'am:

"Kill not your children for want of sustenance for it is Allah that he provide such needs to you and your children, for killing of infants is a major sin. "

So abortion is Haram (forbidden) under normal circumstances. For example Pork is Haram, Alcohol is Haram, having dead meat is Haram but at the same time, The Holy Quran says in four different places, in Surah Al-Baqarah It says:

"If unwillingly you disobey Allah (SWT), Allah is Rahman O Rahim. If under compulsion you disobey Allah (SWT),  Allah is Rahman O Rahim. If you are dying of hunger and pork is only dish available to you, then under such circumstances pork becomes Halal for you. Don't eat so much and keep on having after you don't require it. If you are in jungle and Pork is the only thing you can find to eat on a desert, Pork becomes Halal for you only for that specific time, but not under normal circumstances. When you come back home or in your city it becomes Haram for you."

In the same way, abortion is Haram under normal circumstances, just because you don't want a child. It's considered a major sin. But if it's danger to the life of the mother, then it becomes totally allowed, because in Islam the life of a mother is more precious than the life of an children who is not yet came into existence.

We have heard from so many people around us saying that after 40 days, abortion is forbidden and it's totally not allowed but before 40 it's allowed, but our Holy Quran is very clear to that, if your life is at stake, it is allowed in Islam. If doctor says, you have certain heart problems, and the labor pain will cause strain on your heart which can lead to severe problems and in worst case you can die, you can abort it. Because in Islam you can't sacrifice a greater loss to save a smaller loss. The life of mother already alive in adult is more precious than the child who has not yet came into being on it's own.

So in these cases if it is danger to the life of mother it's totally allowed in Islam, otherwise if not in danger it's Haram.
